Our goal is to promote TFP (Transference-Focused Psychotherapy - Dr. Otto Kernberg) and Applied TFP (TFP in medical contexts) within academic, research, and clinical fields.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Dr. Otto Kernberg, MD, and his team in New York (J. Clarkin, F. Yeomans, E. Caligor, among others) developed Transference-Focused Psychotherapy as an empirically supported psychotherapy for the treatment of personality disorders.
We are driven to teach and disseminate the TFP technique to mental health professionals in a pragmatic, clear, and effective way with a profound impact, aiming to improve the care of patients with personality disorders across diverse healthcare settings.
The ISTFP (International Society of Transference-Focused Psychotherapy) was founded in 2011, bringing together groups worldwide that are developing this technique.
Our team maintains an extensive relationship with the ISTFP, directed by Dr. Frank Yeomans, MD, with Dr. Otto Kernberg, MD, serving as Honorary President. Our members have trained in various programs accredited by this institution, and a significant part of our team is accredited (or in the process of accreditation) as therapists and/or supervisors. Additionally, our Center maintains a close collaborative relationship in teaching and research with the ISTFP Applied TFP Committee, which focuses on applying the TFP technique beyond the psychotherapy setting into various medical contexts. This committee is led by Dr. Richard Hersh, MD, and Dr. Chiara de Panfilis, MD.
